Although it’s been around for ages now, and it’s more popular than ever, email as a form of communication is seriously flawed. There are several issues surrounding the underlying technology that powers emails, but for users, there are more obvious issues such as, for example, if the recipient’s address is mistyped, the message may not be received.
The more popular your online business is, the more likely someone will send an email to asmin@domain.com instead of admin@domain.com. Typically, the message will not be delivered, and simple typos can lead to missed business opportunities. With Softxaa’s HostPanel, you can set up an email inbox that will collect all emails sent to invalid addresses associated with your domain.
Setting a catch-all email address in HostPanel
In addition to messages from users who have mistyped the prefix (that’s the part before the @) of email addresses associated with your domain, you may also receive a lot of spam in your catch-all inbox, so it’s good to have a dedicated account to receive all communications from invalid addresses. Here’s the step-by-step process you need to take.
- Log in to HostPanel’s user interface and click on Email Account. By default, HostPanel’s user interface is accessible via https://domain.com/hostpanel, although you can also access it via the admin interface.
- Choose a catch-all email address (eg, catch-all@domain.com) and set a password for it. When you’re ready, click Create Email button to create the email account.
- Go back to the Softxaa HostPanel home page and click on Default Address. This is the tool you will need to set up your default catch-all email address.
- Select the correct domain name from the drop-down menu, click the Forward to email address button, enter the catch-all email address in the field, and click the Change Address button to complete the process.
